According to Helsinki's deputy mayor Hannu Penttilä, there are possibilities to build over 300 000 square meters of wood buildings to Helsinki in the next few years. This would account to a total of 5000 apartments. There are several locations where wood buildings are planned to be build. Wood can also be used in renovation and supplemental building projects. Mr. Penttilä sees that wood building is environmental friendly and that prefabricated modules decrease the amount expensive work done in cities. (Source: Maaseudun Tulevaisuus, 18.11.2011)
