Finnish Housing Cooperatives Are In Need Of Renovation

08.12.2011

According to a survey conducted for Kiinteistöposti by IROResearch, over half of the Finnish housing cooperatives are facing extensive renovations to be done over the next two years.

The pipe, façade and window repairs are the top of the list and as the population is aging, numerous lift projects are also pending. Yards and common areas are to be developed and improved as well. Last year, EUR 1.2 billion was used in such repairs.

The survey also states that it is rather elderly people that sit in the housing cooperative’s boards, nearly third of them are over 65 years old and 74 per cent of the board members are men and 24 per cent are women. (Source: Kauppalehti, 24.11.2011)
