Finland Receives Order For Three Arctic Icebreakers

Russian oil and gas company Sovcomflot has ordered three arctic stand-by and maintenance icebreakers from Arctech’s Helsinki shipyard. The value of the order is about USD 380 million and the vessels expected to be finished between September 2016 and March 2017.

The icebreakers are going to be 95 metres long and 22 metres wide. Each will have four diesel generators with the combined power of 20 000 kW and the vessel’s propeller power is 13 000kW. In addition to this order, Sovcomflot has also ordered another icebreaker in April 2014, which is meant for stand-by, rescue and oil spill response missions.
