Pilot Plant Producing Bio Coal Opened In Mikkeli

20.10.2014

A Finnish start-up company has opened a pilot plant in Mikkeli for producing bio coal pellets from biomass. The plant will pilot a new technology to produce bio coal pellets, which are expected to have growing global demand. The bio coal pellets can expected to replace the traditional industrial white pellets because they are produced more environmentally and can be also be used in coal power plants.

The aim of the pilot plant is to grow to Finland’s first bio coal plant with the capacity of 250 000 tons. This would require an investment of EUR 80-90 million and would bring 400-500 man-years to the region. (Source: www.talouselama.fi, 13.10.2014)
