Finavia, the company operating Finnish airports, is starting the expansion of Helsinki-Vantaa airport terminal. The building project will be among the biggest ones in Finland and the investment will account for €400 million and the employment effect will be over 5000 man years.
Helsinki-Vantaa airport is preparing for an increasing amount of air travellers from Europe and Asia. Currently, over 16 million passengers travel through Helsinki-Vantaa and with the expansion the airport can handle over 20 million passengers by 2020.
The expansion is divided into three main stages of which the first will start in the beginning of 2016. The plan is to expand terminal premises, luggage handling facilities and increase the number of gates. The investment will increase the airport area with 75 000 square meters.
