Finnish Marine Cluster Developments

16.09.2019

Rauman Meriteollisuuskiinteistöt, real estate development company owned by the city of Rauma, is building new production premises for the local shipyard Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC). The value of the investment is €15 million.

The investment is necessary as RMC has quickly received substantial orders, which include four battle corvettes for the Finnish Defense Forces as well as two passenger ferries for Tallink and Kvarken Link. The orders amount to work of 6500 man-years. RMC has announced that they are increasing recruitments from both Finland and abroad.

The Finnish marine cluster has a turnover of almost €14 billion and the sector employs almost 50 000 people. The sector has grown steadily in the last few years due to large ship, ferry and vessel orders. (Sources: Tekniikka & Talous, 11.1.2019, 13.2.2019 & 5.3.2019)
