A New Waste Sorting System Utilizing Robotics Developed In Finland

30.10.2012

ZenRobotics, a Finnish technology company, has developed a waste sorting system utilizing robotics. The waste moving on a conveyor belt is examined with a metal detector, an infrared camera, a visible light camera and a laser light. Material of the waste can be figured out based on the examination and then shifted to the right refuse bin for further processing.

The company was founded in 2007 and its business activity is yet fairly small. However, it has received a lot of publicity in Finland and in the US. In September, ZenRobotics received a € 13 million investment from an international capital investor Invus and from a growth company reserve Lifeline Ventures.
