Finnish Clothes Exports At A Record High Level

The exporting of clothes is estimated to have risen by 20 per cent in 2011. This translates to a total of EUR 300 million increase. The exports of clothing rose by 26 per cent between January and October from the previous year.

The last time the clothing exports were this busy was at the beginning of the 1990s. The exporting focuses most in the EU area that receives 60 per cent of all the clothes. The most important exporting country, in recent years, has been Russia that gets over 30 per cent of the clothes.

The importing of clothes grew by 17 per cent between January and October 2011. The importing of clothes is estimated to rise to an all-time record of EUR 1,6 billion in 2011.

The production of clothes has returned to nearly the same level it was in 2008 prior to the recession, but the growth slowed down again in October. (Source: www.tekniikkatalous.fi, 30.1.2012 )
