Pioneer Biogas Refinery Planned To Be Build In Joutseno

13.08.2012

Gasum, Helsingin Energia and Metsä Fibre are planning to build a biogas refinery to Joutseno, Finland. The refinery would produce biogas from renewable wood material, using mainly wood chips and crust coming from pulp mills’  wood procurement. The biogas produced would be bio-SNG which could be used the same way as natural gas. Approximately 1.3 million m3 of raw material will be needed annually, and the acquisition range would be 180 kilometers from Joutseno. Building of the plant is expected to start in 2014 and the plant’s production capacity will be 200 megawatts, meaning the plant would be a global pioneer due to its size. (Tekniikka&Talous, 28.6.12)
