The latest statistics by United Nations states that the share of ICT related production of goods and services in an economy is highest in Finland.  This means that nearly ten per cent of the country’s non-agricultural business workforce is working in the ICT sector.

Nokia was the forerunner in making Finland one of the most technology focused economies globally in the 1990s and even though Nokia’s input to the GDP growth has withered, the ICT sector has maintained its powerful role in the Finnish economy.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s IT Industry Competitiveness Index ranked Finland as the second most competitive country globally in information technology after the United States. (Source: www.goodnewsfinland.com, 17.02.2012)
