Petrochemistry and Biofuels

Finnish companies produce oil and fuel products in a few large refineries as well as biofuels in smaller plants around the country. Biofuels are produced from households’ waste and food industry waste streams. Forest industry’s residues are utilized in production as well and forest companies have developed their own biodiesels.

Alternative energy solutions are needed to reduce the impact of transport on the environment. Finland aims to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from road transport by increasing the use of biofuels and other renewable fuel sources. The field is bubbling with investments to new refineries and plants.
